The Potomac District is an exciting and diverse area just south of Washington, D.C. and is one of seven distinct geographic entities that make up Prince William County. Located along the Potomac River, our District offers a variety of recreational opportunities including boating, fishing, golf, playing fields, the General Joseph Heiser Boys and Girls Club and both the Prince William Forest National Park and the Locust Shade Regional Park. Our elementary, middle and high schools are excellent and we offer easy access to both major highways and public transportation. The Potomac Magisterial District is rich in history, especially in the Town of Dumfries which is the oldest chartered town in the Commonwealth of Virginia and was once the major seaport on the east coast. It also houses the Weems-Botts Museum, the original home of the writer of the story of George Washington and the Cherry Tree. There is much to do in our District and more than ample opportunities to get involved in a wide variety of organizations and activities.
